Memory 365" is a unique commemorative initiative that connects bereaved families with High schools, colleges, and academic institutions in Israel and throughout the Jewish diaspora.
The "Memory 365" initiative seeks to preserve the memory of those who fell in the ״ Swords of Iron War" and to create a meaningful and impactful commemoration process throughout the entire year. It also aims to strengthen the connection between young people (middle school, high school, and university students) in Israel and around the world to the values of Zionist-Israeli-Jewish heritage and the values of morality and goodness.
This connection will be strengthened through the creation of partnerships and significant activities between the young people and the bereaved families.
In addition to and alongside commemoration, the initiative seeks to create a language and a platform for dialogue emerging from remembrance. The fallen of the " Swords of Iron War” carried with them a unique, inspiring, noble set of values that led them to answer their generation's call to restore security and peace to Israel's citizens, at the ultimate cost of sacrificing their lives. This set of values forms the foundation of the language and discourse the initiative aims to promote, because values must be spoken.
This dialogue, which arises from the harsh reality and elevates it, draws from the character of the fallen and allows for growth from within the pain, honoring the families' loss, and building personal, communal, and national resilience among the youth and young adults both in Israel and the Diaspora.
As part of the initiative, students participating in the program, both in Israel and abroad, will meet virtually and engage in discussions centered around the values the fallen stood for—values they lived and died by. In partnership with bereaved families, they will initiate and create remembrance projects.
A collection of value cards will integrate as a pedagogical instrument to facilitate and enhance the educational objectives within the framework of the initiative These cards were developed by Michal Bontzel in memory of her nephew, Staff Sergeant Amit Bontzel, a fighter and platoon sergeant in the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit, Amit fell in battle in central Gaza on 6 Kislev (December 6, 2023) during Operation Iron Swords.
He was a leader whose primary concern was for others, and whose great love was for the Land and State of Israel. In the spirit of these values, the card set was produced. In line with Amit's values, his family decided that the cards would be used to commemorate all fallen soldiers and victims of the war.
Memory 365 is an initiative by “Yachad Israel” an all-Israeli Zionist movement Its goals are to protect Israel’s heritage, strengthen Jewish cohesion; and build resilience in Israel and the diaspora based on community building, pioneering spirit, and policy development in the spirit of practical Zionism.
